Why Information Matters More in Raiding Than Anywhere Else

Raiding is the one part of Rust where the value of information is straightforwardly measurable in resources. A rocket costs 1,400 sulfur to craft. Getting through a stone wall takes two. A large base can absorb ten or more rockets on the wrong path — that is 14,000+ sulfur, several hours of farming, spent reaching an empty room. The traditional solution is inference. Experienced raiders read external shape, door placement, window positions and where the chimney or garage door sits, then guess at the internal layout based on known base designs. Defenders inside the base are inconsistently visible. Player entities are what occlusion culling withholds. A defender deep inside a base with solid structure between you and them may not be transmitted, which is exactly the case an online raider cares about. This inverts the previous advice. The same tell as any other combat situation, and raid footage is reviewed more often than roaming footage. The mitigations cost resources, which is precisely why people skip them. Take a slightly suboptimal path occasionally. Blow one wall you did not need to. Approach the loot room from the side you would have guessed at rather than the one you know is shortest. A raid that costs 20% more explosives and does not get you banned is cheaper than a raid that costs less and ends the account.
